Welcome to Marty and Shelley Nickel

Please join me in welcoming our new neighbors Marty and Shelley Nickel who recently moved into 1373 Harrison Point Trail from Atlanta. They have submitted a bio, which I am pleased to share below:

Welcome Marty and Shelley to our neighborhood and thanks for sharing your background with your neighbors of PPCA!

Hi there, we’re Marty and Shelley Nickel at 1373 Harrison Point Trail.  We moved to this beautiful spot after living in Atlanta for 30+ years.  What a relief.  We are very excited to be here and looking forward to meeting all of our neighbors and joining in on the festivities, we have heard about.

I (Shelley) am recently retired as an executive with the Board of Regents, University System of Georgia, after holding numerous positions in the system, as president of Georgia Southern University, Gordon State College, and Treasurer to the Board.  I also worked in Georgia State government as the Director of the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget and President of the Georgia Student Finance Commission. I am originally from the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, graduating from Penn State University with Bachelors and Master’s degrees.

Marty is also retired from a career in sales, but not from his singer songwriting career.  He played in Atlanta’s clubs and restaurants for 30 years, and has an active following.  He is best described as playing “beach music,” so he will fit right in, here on Amelia Island.  He grew up both in Virginia and overseas in Brussels, where he attended the International School, before graduating from the University of Richmond.

We have three grown children and two grandchildren who live in California and Georgia. We are sure they will be coming to visit, as they all love the beach.

We hope to get involved in the community here and travel some.
